10 e-jeepneys to transport guests to festival venues
The 2011 Dinagyang Festival, true to its mission of becoming a vehicle in the promotion of environmental awareness, will introduce 10 electric jeepneys donated by Ilonggo businessman Rommel Ynion to the Iloilo city government, on the day of the Ati tribes competition slated on January 23.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said guests will be transported by e-jeepneys from the San Jose Parish Church to the Freedom Grandstand.
Mabilog said two of the 10 jeepneys will arrive before the end of December while the remaining eight will be delivered in January.
To further heighten public awareness on the e-jeepney, the city government will offer free rides to city’s public elementary pupils and senior citizens after its maiden presentation during the Dinagyang Festival.
The Dinagyang Festival was also once tapped by authorities to promote the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.
The festival was also cited as a best practice in terms of public-private partnership as reflected in the triumvirate composed of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc., San Jose Parish and the city government.
The Dinagyang is also in the Hall of Fame of the country’s best tourism events, an honor bestowed by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines.*
